Hilary Salmon was until recently Head of Drama London for BBC Studios; a commercial subsidiary of the BBC Group that creates many of the UK's most successful shows.

Hilary and her team developed and produced multi-award-winning dramas that are renowned for their quality and loved by audiences around the world. These include big global hits such as Our Girl and Silent Witness, sold to over 200 territories worldwide and highly acclaimed, impactful dramas like Luther starring Idris Elba, Rillington Place, starring Tim Roth and Samantha Morton, Undercover, starring Sophie Okonedo, and the multi-award winning Three Girls, which achieved a consolidated audience of over 8 million in the UK and sparked a national conversation. Hilary was most recently responsible for Motherfatherson, Tom Rob Smith’s provocative 8 part series for BBC2 staring Richard Gere, the late Helen McCrory and Billy Howle.

Prior to this Hilary was an Executive Producer for BBC Drama, responsible for a diverse range of titles from To the Ends of the Earth starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Inside Men starring Stephen Mackintosh, One Child with Katie Leung, What Remains with David Threlfall, Joe Penhall’s Moses Jones and the hugely popular legal series Silk, starring Maxine Peake.

She also developed and executive produced the iconic Criminal Justice, which won a BAFTA and a Broadcast Award for Best Mini-Series, the International Emmy and RTS for Best Actor for Ben Whishaw, a Prix Italia award and the BAFTA Writer’s Award for Peter Moffat and was successfully re-versioned by American network HBO as The Night Of. Hilary has also co-produced shows with HBO, including Five Days and House of Saddam, which won a Grierson Award. She is currently an EP on 61st Street, an original crime thriller series by Peter Moffat currently filming in Chicago. This timely show, starring Courtney B Vance, Tosin Cole, Aunjanue Ellis and Andrene Ward-Hammond takes a searing look at the tensions between the Chicago Police Department and the city’s African American community.

Hilary leads the creative direction of The Lighthouse while developing and Executive Producing her own slate of new dramas.
